Fantasy Basel

Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con is the largest convention for pop culture in Switzerland. This fair takes place from 18–20 May 2022 in the halls of Messe Basel. Creative makers and fans celebrate the fascination of creativity and imagination together in the real and imaginary world with a unique spectacle with stars, artists, cosplayers, film and TV studios, action zones, exhibitions, dealers, fan groups and thousands of visitors.

For the third time, the I.I. Basel Chapter was invited to be represented with its own booth. We have as neighbour the calligraphy master Takeda Rie, with whom we have already worked in the past, and are positioned in the Japan Corner.

Our booth concept shows the connection between Ikebana and its depictions in anime and manga. Examples here are Magic Kyun! Renaissance and Girls und Panzer as well as Bleach. These series serve as templates for us. The original arrangements are recreated and screenshots from the works are juxtaposed as printed posters. We deliberately show the illustration and the real arrangement next to each other in order to illustrate the realism of the drawings.

At Takeda-sensei’s booth, we will show the interplay between Japanese calligraphy and flower arrangements. You can also participate in workshops.

Until then and may the (flower) power be with you! 🌸

VitraHaus spring demonstration

The start of spring is one of the most beautiful times on the Vitra Campus thanks to the cherry blossoms. The cherry trees on the Vitra Campus around the conference pavilion by Ando Tadao are part of the Japanese architect’s building concept and underline their traditional importance in Japanese culture.

The Ikebana International Basel Chapter members Monika, Ursula, Wally and Hedy showed demonstrations on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April 2023, both at 13:30 and 15:30 o’clock at the VitraHaus on Level 1. 🌸
